Title
"The most perfect comedy ever written" The Guardian
A shipwreck, a set of twins and the most famous pair of yellow stockings in history take centre stage in Shakespeare’s sublime comedy.
Hilarious and heart-breaking, Twelfth Night follows the fortunes of Viola, who, washed up on the shores of Illyria, disguises herself as a boy to seek employment. Sent to woo the Lady Olivia by Duke Orsino, it soon becomes clear that Viola’s disguise may just be a little too good…
Featuring some of Shakespeare’s most beautiful songs and best-loved characters, (Sir Toby Belch, Andrew Aguecheek, Malvolio), this brand-new production, directed by Charlotte Conquest (The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Romeo & Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew), transports the eccentric world of Illyria to the sunny British seaside on the 1950s.
As the warmth of a midsummer dusk descends, expect fabulous music, elegant poetry and brilliantly staged comedy right in the heart of Guildford.
Casting to be announced later in the Spring.
We last staged the play in 2014, set in Victorian England directed by Tom Littler and designed by Neil Irish. "If you've missed out on this production then you've denied yourself an absolute treat."
