This year, 2021, marks the 10th anniversary of International Jazz Day, the global movement to celebrate jazz which brings together countries and communities and highlights music’s role in encouraging dialogue, combating discrimination and promoting human dignity. The annual jazz event reaches over 2 billion people globally across all seven continents, including Antartica.
The Julian Joseph Jazz Academy and World Heart Beat Music Academy are intertwined – the partnering of both academies helps secure the shared enrichment and creation of more well-rounded musicians who benefit through learning, gaining experience and performance opportunities. World Heart Beat students are exposed to specialist jazz programmes at JJJA, whilst JJJA students have the opportunity to expand their experience in classical music, orchestra and band performances, such as the 51st State band plus mentoring opportunities.
World Heart Beat’s jazz programme is spearheaded by the exemplary work of internationally renowned British jazz musicians, including pianist Trevor Watkis, saxophonist Tony Kofi and trumpeter Byron Wallen all of whom are part of the founding faculty of JJJA. Jazz vocalist Cleveland Watkiss MBE provides mentoring and masterclasses to World Heart Beat students on a regular basis. The academy also runs a weekly jazz roots class for those starting off on their musical journey into playing jazz.
The Julian Joseph Jazz Academy (JJJA), under the artistic direction of internationally renowned jazz pianist, composer and World Heart Beat Patron Julian Joseph welcomes aspiring young jazz musicians, aged 9-24 years, all year round. The Academy offers talented young instrumentalists and vocalists an amazing opportunity to work with some of the world’s top jazz musicians to develop their creative talents and performance skills, through exploring the American roots of Jazz.
