Dr Nicholas Tromans, Curator at The Watts Gallery and expert on the infamous Victorian artist Richard Dadd, will explore Dadds fascination with religious texts and how this impacted on his life and art. Using hospital case notes that record his relationship with his psychiatrists and the role these doctors played in his artistic life and changing psychiatric condition, Dr Tromans will shed new light on the life of an artist who painted surrealist imagery and alternative worlds, including religious motifs, dream figures, fairy creatures and demons.
