Surrey Ride and Stride 2024
Join Surrey’s historic churches preservation efforts: Participate in Ride & Stride on Saturday 14 September 2024
Ride and Stride participation allows grant funding to churches from the Surrey Churches Preservation Trust
The Surrey Churches Preservation Trust (SCPT) is thrilled to announce the annual Ride & Stride event, set for Saturday 14 September 2024. We invite churches and communities to come together for a day of activity and camaraderie, all while raising crucial funds for the preservation of Surrey’s treasured church buildings.
Why Participate?
The Surrey Churches Preservation Trust has an unprecedented amount of money available for building conservation and repair grants, which can be up to £3,000 per church. Yet very surprisingly, some Christian denominations never apply for money. To be eligible to be considered to receive grant funding, each church community must take part in the Ride & Stride event. And it's not just cycling or walking - it can be a coffee morning or tea party you organise to raise funds. By participating and raising any amount of money, churches can unlock significant funding for essential repairs and conservation efforts.
It is a 'no brainer' for churches, modern and old, too. Even a few pounds raised opens up potential grant funding for the church. But no Ride and Stride participation equals no grant funding from the Surrey Churches Preservation Trust.
How to Get Involved:
- Ride or Walk: Enjoy a scenic bike ride or walk through Surrey’s beautiful countryside on Saturday 14 September 2024, visiting historic churches along the way. Routes and maps are available on our website: https://www.surreychurchespreservationtrust.org/ride-stride/
- Host an Event: Organise a coffee morning, tea party, or any other fundraising activity. These events are increasingly popular and a wonderful way to gather community support and contribute to the cause. The event can be any date you choose up to the end of September 2024.
The Impact:
The Ride & Stride event has already raised over £500,000 since its inception, with all funds directly supporting the repair and conservation of Surrey's Christian churches. Half of the money raised by each participant goes to their chosen church, while the remainder is distributed to other churches across Surrey through conservation grants.
Volunteer and Get Involved:
The SCPT is a volunteer run charity, and we are always looking for enthusiastic individuals to join us as volunteers or trustees. Your involvement can make a substantial difference in preserving Surrey’s historical and architectural heritage.
