Su Rogers
Su Rogers-Red pot 2018
Su Roger’s exuberantly bright and bold ceramics will soon be on show in The New Ashgate Gallery. Each piece of Rogers’ current pieces is hand crafted using the method ‘Hand coiling’. Coiling is where hand rolled ‘sausages’ of clay are joined then smoothed with a metal kidney. Colour is created with slip and patterned using a sgraffito pen. The outcome is a collection of stunning tactile, textural ceramics which her audience will love to use.
Rogers’ aim has always been to create beautiful pieces which will last in the home or garden as useable, textural glorious pieces of Art.
Rogers’ cites Asian and African geometric lines and designs as thematic inspirations for her work, her earthy colour palate and warm welcoming hues used with the glazes and detailing remind us of summers in warmer climes. There are also obvious references to the natural organic world we see about us, leaves branches and berries to name a few. Rogers’ researches each collection before starting using her sketch book to record those special occasions from which new designs will spring.
Rogers’ immersion in her craft has created a brand which is instantly recognisable as ‘Bus Stop Pottery’ and is the perfect place to stop off en route to purchase a unique handcrafted gift for someone special, or indeed just for you.
