One of the indisputably great European chamber groups, the Smetana Trio celebrated its eightieth anniversary in 2014 and despite many changes of personnel continues to uphold the musical ideals and technical excellence of its founder members. As befits heirs to the great Czech tradition, it programmes Dvorak’s lovable Dumky Trio, a series of irresistible Slavonic dances, alongside Beethoven in light-hearted mood and Mendelssohn at his most impassioned and lyrical.
In detail, the programme comprises:
BEETHOVEN: Piano Trio in B flat, Op 11
MENDELSSOHN: Piano Trio in D minor, Op 49
DVORAK: Piano Trio in E minor, Op 90, Dumky
