Leith Hill Place, in association with Worcester Rep, presents an irreverent one-woman play, The Second Best Bed, in which Anne Hathaway reflects upon her life with William Shakespeare. Leith Hill Place was the childhood home of the composer, Vaughan Williams, and as a life-long lover of the Bard this event would definitely have appealed to his wicked sense of humour.
The performance takes place in the intimate setting of the Terrace room – the very room where Vaughan Williams’s mother would have read Shakespeare aloud after dinner. The young Vaughan Williams delighted in reading over her shoulder to see the ‘naughty bits’ she would leave out.
Interval Drinks will be served on the terrace, weather permitting, overlooking the glorious view. There is a shuttle bus service from the car park to save visitors the usual walk. Blue badge parking available at the house.
