Runnymede Drama Group: Cast of 'Humble Boy'
Hurry to book your tickets for Runnymede Drama Group’s next production at Walton’s Riverhouse Barn – tickets are selling fast for this heart-warming tragicomedy. For their summer production, RDG is performing 'Humble Boy' – Charlotte Jones’ play about bereavement, black holes, mothers and sons, gardening, ambition, disappointment, relationship problems, and bees!
Following the death of his father, Felix Humble returns from his studies in Cambridge to his family home and his difficult demanding mother, where he soon realises he must try and sort out his chaotic home life. At the heart of the play is a family meal, which takes on all the painful comedy of an Alan Ayckbourn set-piece alongside wit to rival that of Tom Stoppard but there are strong echoes of a latter-day Hamlet too.
Set in a flower-filled Cotswold garden, this lovely, touching, and very funny play won numerous awards following its original production at the National Theatre. At first glance, Humble Boy is about a son coming home to attend his father’s funeral but, in fact, there is a honeycomb of ideas beneath the surface…
