The Richmond Poppy Factory’s £6 million renovation is the subject of a talk by its Chief Executive Deirdre Mills to The Richmond Society.
The factory has been making remembrance poppies since 1922 when it opened to offer jobs to wounded soldiers returning from the First World War. It produces 36 million poppies every year.
Work to bring it up to date is due to begin in November, after the Remembrance Day peak of the factory’s production run. The aim is to transform the Petersham Road building into an accessible, inclusive and educational space for ex-service men and women, some disabled, who work there and also for the wider local community.
Mrs Mills’ talk is scheduled for Thursday 26 April at 7:45 pm when she will also discuss the factory’s ground-breaking employability programme for supporting disabled veterans to get back into work.
The Richmond Society is the town’s amenity charity. It meets at Richmond Adult Community College in Parkshot, Richmond TW9 2RE.
Entry is free to members of The Richmond Society. Non-members are welcome for a donation of £2.
