'Ralph Vaughan Williams and his contemporaries' - Recital at Leith Hill Place, in association with the Royal College of Music
Leith Hill Place continues its exciting new collaboration with the Royal College of Music in this second recital in a series of four, celebrating the life and music of Ralph Vaughan Williams. Specially selected musicians from the RCM’s professional development department showcase the cream of young talent on the verge of their professional careers.
The programme at 6.30pm on 6 June is a concert of two halves, the first introducing cello and piano duo, Yoon-Kyung Cho and Boeun Cho, playing Vaughan Williams’s 'Six studies in English folk song', Holst’s 'Evocation' and the Cello Sonata by Frank Bridge. Audience members are invited to enjoy the glorious view from the terrace with a glass of wine in the interval before hearing Baritone Nicholas Morton and pianist Ian Tindale perform 'Songs of Trave'l by Vaughan Williams.
Leith Hill Place is the childhood home of composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and the concert takes place in the very drawing room where the young composer first learnt to play the piano and violin, and so these concerts are a very special and intimate experience.
First opened to the public by the National Trust in summer 2013, the house sits on the lower slopes of Leith Hill amidst the area of outstanding natural beauty with unrivalled views over the South Downs.
