#PITartonthebank
Terry Boyd, A Dreamless Sleep. Forever, and Ever, 2018
From 3-9 June, a multi-disciplinary pop-up art exhibition is coming to London’s vibrant Southbank showcasing established and emerging pieces from Pittsburgh artists. Pittsburgh Art on the Bank, overseen and curated by a panel of Pittsburgh arts administrators, including VisitPITTSBURGH, Greater Pittsburgh Art Council and Arts and Culture at Pittsburgh International Airport, is an immersive presentation of the city’s diverse talent featuring original tapestry pieces, digital installations, visual poems on acrylic, canvas oil paintings and archived photography.
Celebrated as one of the best arts and culture destinations in the US, Pittsburgh has earned its reputation as a must visit destination for creatives. Not only is it the birthplace of legendry pop-artist Andy Warhol, it is also home to the seven-storey Andy Warhol Museum showcasing over 3,300 of his pieces; The Carnegie Museum of Art, committed to championing creativity; contemporary art museum The Mattress Factory, providing a living and working space for artists around the world; historic 19th century art museum The Frick, that showcases a selection of fine art and furnishings and just outside of the city, world class architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s, Fallingwater.
The week-long showcase coincides with British Airways centenary celebrations and follows last month’s launch of the year-round direct service to Pittsburgh from London Heathrow. Added highlights during the week-long exhibit include a series of free silk-screening sessions - available on a first-come, first-served basis, allowing visitors to explore Andy Warhol’s signature technique, and take away an iconic print on a tote bag. Throughout the exhibition, visitors will also have the opportunity to win a five-night trip for two to Pittsburgh and admission to a selection of the city’s top museums.
