Cherrill Sand's talk covers the restoration of one of the gems in Elmbridge's crown. In 1981 Painshill Trust was set up to restore a beautiful yet forgotten 18th century landscape originally created by the Hon Charles Hamilton between 1738 and 1773. As the Trust celebrates its 35 Anniversary, the years of hard work and determination have seen Painshill restored and the crystal Grotto is once again a sparkling centrepiece within the landscape garden and the long lake vistas which Hamilton so treasured. And in 2014 it won the category of restoration of a Georgian Garden and Landscape at the Georgian Group Architectural Awards. Admission £3. Tickets available on the door.
