Suffragettes
Female militancy transcends class and sexual convention in this, the first play by a female living playwright, to be performed on the Olivier stage in July 2008. In London 1913, at a crucial point in the campaign for female emancipation, militant suffragettes are engaged in a violent and shocking battle with the establishment. Amongst the thousands of women incarcerated in Holloway Prison is Lady Celia Cain. Trapped in a frustrating marriage, she meets a young seamstress, Eve Douglas and her life spirals into an erotic and dangerous chaos.
