“MATERIALS MATTER” local sculptors mount exciting exhibition exploring the use of diverse materials in the creative process.
Contemporary sculptors are using an incredibly diverse range of materials which has led to an explosion of new forms of artworks. Members of Hampshire Sculpture Trust are mounting an exhibition celebrating this diversity, with unique artworks made from traditional and non –traditional materials including human hair, dryer lint, seeds, wool, latex, as well as more familiar materials such as bronze, plaster, wood, metal, resin and ceramic. The exhibition of the work of fifteen artists will give an insight into the ideas that generate their work, as well as the responses artists make to the materials they select, highlighting why materials matter.
Members of the Trust are all experienced artists who have studied Fine Art and have continued to practice and develop their own personal language, exhibiting their work in the region and far beyond. This results in an exhibition with a broad range of subject matter, and very diverse artworks, but the curation establishes links between these, allowing the spectator the opportunity to see connections between apparently disparate works.
