The first part of a major two-year recital series by Cranleigh’s brilliant Organists in Residence showcases the extraordinary sonic colours of the organ through a kaleidoscope of music written from the ‘Kind of Instruments’.
Through eighteen recitals spread over the two years, Philip Scriven will explore the rich variety and enormous wealth of music written for the organ during the 20th century. Not only will be perform the complete organ works of Maurice Duruflé, Paul Hindemith, John Ireland and Hubert Parry (in his centenary year), but the music of over forty other composers will also be featured, most notably Herbert Howells and Joseph Jongen.
Each recital will also include as its centrepiece a Prelude and Fugue by the great J.S. Bach, to whom all subsequent composers for the instrument were so indebted.
