Philip Scriven performs on the Mander Organ in Cranleigh School Chapel
'Kaleidoscope II' is the second part of a major two-year recital series by Cranleigh's brilliant Organist in Residence - showcasing the extraordinary sonic colours of the organ through a kaleidoscope of music written from the 'King of Instruments'.
Through 18 recitals spread over two years, Philip Scriven explores the rich variety and enormous wealth of music written for the organ during the 20th century. Not only will he perform the complete organ works of Maurice Durufle, Paul Hindemith, John Ireland and Hubert Parry (in his centenary year), but the music of over 40 other composers will also be featured, most notably Herbert Howells and Joseph Jongen.
Each recital will also include as its centrepiece a Prelude and Fugue by the great J.S. Bach, to whom all subsequent composers for the instrument were so indebted.
