R.C. Sherriff’s anti-war classic JOURNEY’S END is an extraordinary coup for the newly established Esher Theatre. Theatre Reviva! bring their gripping production, to this new venue’s opening season. Set in a frontline dugout during the First World War, this story plays out over four days in March 1918 as five British Officers wait for an upcoming attack. Full of beautifully observed humanity and understated heroism, R. C. Sherriff, who went to Kingston Grammar School, drew on his own experiences in the trenches whilst Captain of East Surrey Regiment.This first-hand authenticity told through a hilarious, exciting, shocking, and poignant script has kept the play, and subsequent films, a triumph for a full ninety years. The show runs from Armistice Day until Remembrance Sunday. A great way to pay tribute to those who served to keep us safe.
