The exhibition provides an in-depth examination of Constable’s fascination with weather and its ability
to change a landscape – both in mood and physical appearance. The show focuses on Constable’s unique ability to combine scientific observation with artistic skill in recording changes in weather phenomena. On display are a variety of techniques he used to achieve this. The works range in medium from pen and ink studies, to watercolour and oil sketches meant for his own personal use, to finished pieces meant for display. By bringing together loans from both UK national and regional public collections, the exhibition shows how Constable captured the way weather can define and change a landscape.
