Those visiting the hotel will be able to request a copy of the limited edition Local Stories walking map which has been developed in conjunction with the Dorking History Museum to celebrate the life and works of Jane Austen.
Austen is said to have written part of her famed novel ‘Emma’ whilst staying at Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel – you can spot her infamous quote on the wall of Knightley’s Restaurant, where you can experience fine British contemporary cuisine in an exquisite, beautiful setting: ‘They had a very fine day for Box Hill… Nothing was wanting but to be happy when they got there. Seven miles were travelled in expectation and enjoyment and everybody had a burst of admiration on first arriving’.
