GSC kick off their annual Bash for Shakespeare’s Birthday with a specially staged reading of Shakespeare’s last play, HENRY VIII.
Co-written with John Fletcher, the play tells the well-known story of Catherine of Aragon’s fight to preserve her marriage to Henry and his desire to marry Anne Boleyn. Shakespeare’s original audiences however knew the play under a different title – All Is True – and it even features the baby Elizabeth I on stage in the final scene. Henry VIII is the closest Shakespeare came to writing a contemporary play, with the history’s events only 77 years old.
Following the sell-out staged readings of Pericles and Cymbeline, join us for another of Shakespeare’s rarely performed plays.
