A glorious selection of choral music, from Palestrina to Arvo Pärt, features in the autumn concert of the Epsom Chamber Choir. They will be performing for the first time under their new conductor, Mark Biggins.
Their programme of sacred music stretches back to the 15th century polyphony of Josquin des Pres and the 16th century Renaissance masters of Italy and Spain, Palestrina and Victoria. Lesser-known choral works by 19th century giants Liszt and Saint-Saëns can be heard, whilst William Harris’ unsurpassed anthem for two choirs ‘Faire is the Heaven’ represents the heights of choral writing of the last century. From our present century are Arvo Pärt’s quirky ‘Which was the son of…’ in addition to works by London-born Cecilia McDowall and the American Michael Gilbertson.
