"Handbagged" to be performed by RDG
This highly original satire looks behind the closed doors of Buckingham Palace and speculates what happened when the Queen met Margaret Thatcher for tea in the years between 1979 and 1990. Originally written in 2010 and expanded to a full-length play in 2013, this fresh, exciting production was nominated for an Olivier award in 2015 and went on to be a West End hit! Many of the major events in British politics in the 1980's and 1990's are referenced yet it's anything but a dry history lesson. There are constant gear changes as the action veers from slapstick to moments of poignancy and pathos. Timelines are blurred and the play cleverly interweaves political events with humour and reveals the humanity of two strong women.
