Anastasia Shuraeva / The Home Club
Guildford community art project
A LIVE art installation that local people can help create is taking place this weekend in Guildford as part of the town’s Car Free Day Festival. The activity, aptly named ‘Our Guildford’, will be hosted by local lettings agency The Home Club and Guildford artist Nathalie Scott, owner of the GU Art community gallery on Swan Lane.
Locals will be encouraged to bring their creative flair to the event, and asked to add their own elements to the design – from reality to fantasy – to make it really personal. From mermaids in the river to ‘my house’ in the Surrey Hills. The only thing off limits are cars.
WHERE: Tunsgate Arch
HOW: All art materials will be provided from paint to pens - just bring creative flair
WHO: Residents, shoppers, families, children...everyone welcome! No art experience needed
The activity forms part of The Home Club’s ongoing support and sponsorship of Guildford Arts and the incredibly rich art and culture scene in Guildford. Once complete at the end of the day, the final piece will be displayed in a prominent location for people to view, starting at the GU Art gallery that artist Nathalie runs on Swan Lane.
Guildford's celebration of Car Free Day on Sunday 26 September will see pedestrians put first in the town centre: it will be transformed with market stalls from Ethical Vegan, Rural Crafts, antiques and a Farmer's Market as well as other stalls offering street food, live music from local groups and street plays for children. There will also be lots of information about how residents can step up their actions to tackle climate change. Leave your car at home and use alternative forms of transport, such as walking, cycling and public transport.
Visit guildford.gov.uk for more information and details on how to get involved.
