The women’s suffrage movement developed a distinctive visual style and used powerful imagery to convey its message. Music, drama, jewellery and even needlework pieces were pressed into the service of the cause. This course will showcase the artists, writers, composers and designers who developed the movement’s image through pageantry, performance and merchandising and who produced its propaganda posters and postcards. We will also look at how the movement has been depicted in novels, television and film.
