REMEMBERING ERIC….’
On Saturday 9 May, Epsom Symphony Orchestra will commemorate the life of Eric Hastings with a special concert of Mediterranean Classics at the Epsom Playhouse.
Eric, who passed away in March aged 90, led the orchestra for fifty years and was a significant part of the cultural life in Epsom during that time. Previously, he had had a busy professional life as a founder member of the Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra and then with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
‘Eric was a wonderful character whose humour, dedication and professionalism was greatly appreciated by our orchestra and audiences – and he will be sorely missed’, says current ESO conductor Darrell Davison. ‘We felt it really appropriate that we dedicate this concert to his memory as it features the brilliant, award-winning young violinist Michael Foyle who is going to perform Lalo’s virtuoso masterpiece Symphonie Espagnole. We will also present him a special award in Eric’s memory.’
The concert, which starts at 7.30pm, will also feature Tchaikovsky’s exciting Capriccio Italien, the Grand March from Verdi’s Aida and Respighi’s beautiful and evocative Fountains of Rome.
Tickets are available at £14 (with concessions) from the Epsom Playhouse Box Office, tel: 01372 742555/742227.
