What better way to ensure that the darkness of winter is chased away than with this concert of radiant music? The splendid Epsom Chamber Choir presents a programme called ‘Canticles of Light’ which features illuminating music by Thomas Tallis, John Rutter, Bob Chilcott and Eric Whitacre.
Thomas Tallis’ miniature ‘O Nata Lux’ is considered one of the gems of the English Renaissance and from the late Victorian era Charles Wood’s anthems ‘Hail Gladdening Light’ and ‘O thou the Central Orb’ are romantic staple fare of Cathedral choirs. The theme of light continues with the ‘Canticles of Light’ by Bob Chilcott and John Rutter’s ‘Hymn to the Creator of Light’. Popular contemporary Americans Morten Lauridsen and Eric Whitacre complete the programme with their ‘Lux Aeterna’ and ‘Lux Aurumque’.
Piers Maxim is the conductor and Iain MacFarlane accompanies on the organ.
