Edward Hopper. Art Institute Chicago.
Edward Hopper. Nighthawks, 1942. Oil on canvas. 84.1 x 152.4 cm. Art Institute Chicago.
Edward Hopper developed an acutely observed, finely calculated rendering of American contemporary life. He eschewed direct narrative and presented his images without an overt interpretation. The viewer must interpret for themselves and in this lies much of their power. In this class we will look at Hopper’s life, methods and work.
