WWT’s founder Sir Peter Scott enjoyed capturing the beauty of wildfowl and wetland landscapes through sketching and painting. Today, many artists and photographers are inspired by the result of his vision of a thriving urban wildlife habitat here at WWT London Wetland Centre. Come along to our workshop and learn some basic sketching techniques – all materials will be provided.
Artist Judith Gordon will begin the day with an introduction to drawing materials and basic techniques. She’ll provide wildfowl and landscape photographs taken at London Wetland Centre for sketching, enabling you to focus on details such as birds’ feet, feathers and bills. You’ll also be able to learn about drawing foliage, water and clouds. During a one-hour break you’ll be able to purchase lunch in the Water’s Edge Cafe and also take the opportunity to explore the Wetlands of the World area of the Centre to see some of the birds you have been sketching.
In the afternoon you can choose a new subject to sketch. Again, using photos taken at London Wetland Centre, you can do more complete drawing of a duck using coloured pencils as well.
Suitable for adults ages 16 and over.
10am - 4pm
£40.50 per person, plus paid admission to the Centre (includes booking fee).
