Degas – Revolutionary Conservative
Edgar Degas was undoubtedly one of the great artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A central member of this time of artistic and social revolution, he continually pushed boundaries to the end of his life despite being brought up and trained in a very conservative way. In this session we will look at the work and the attitudes of this solitary and often contentious man. This figure will bring us up against some very contemporary issues concerning how to regard the work of an artist whose opinions you find distasteful. Tutor: Ronnie Ireland D.A. (Drawing and Painting; Glasgow School of Art) B.A. (Hons) Open University. Time: 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm. Length of Course: 1 Tuesday.
