Edgar Degas, Dans Un Café, 1875-76, oil on canvas
Edgar Degas was undoubtedly one of the great artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A central member at this time of artistic and social revolution, he continually pushed boundaries to the end of his life, despite being brought up and trained in a very conservative way. A solitary and often contentious man, we look at his work, but also at his attitudes that bring us up against some very contemporary issues regarding how you view the work of an artist whose opinions you find distasteful.
This is a repeat course.
