Kevin Weaver (Violin), Andrew Thomas (Flute), Philip Scriven (Harpsichord) with the Merriman Chamber Orchestra.
The ‘concerto’ is a musical form in which an individual or small group of soloists is highlighted within a larger ensemble. It was a child of the Baroque period in musical history and yielded some of its greatest gems, paving the way for the mighty Classical and Romantic concertos to come.
In this informal lecture-recital, Kevin Weaver (Head of Strings), Andrew Thomas (Head of Woodwind) and Philip Scriven (Organist in Residence) perform three jewels of the Baroque concerto by two of its greatest composers.
Marcus Pashely, Director of Music, also takes a look ‘under the bonnet’ of these concertos, exploring how they came to be written and what to listen out for in the delightful world of Baroque instrumental music.
