ABOUT THE SHOW
Close Encounters was written by local prolific writer, Jimmie Chinn in the mid eighties. His style is to take his audience on a roller-coaster journey through a range of emotions and this two act play is no exception. In the same genre as Abigail's Party, Close Encounters is based on an awkward mix of people who have nothing in common except their geography. The neighbours, after years of living just up the road, are unexpectedly invited in for drinks.
As the evening continues and the gin flows the discomfort increases. A guest arrives ..... sit back and prepare to be uncomfortable in this wonderful production of Close Encounters.
THE DIRECTOR & THE AUTHOR
The play was first performed by The Upstage Theatre Company in Richmond under the original title 'Trivial Pursuits.' Karen Buchanan, Director, appeared as Alice in the original 1980s production and is very excited to have the opportunity to direct this version for the Barn Theatre. There have been several alterations to the script but she feels sure that Jimmie would be delighted with the final result. Most of Jimmie's plays were premiered by Teddington Theatre Club at Hampton Court Theatre or on the fringe circuit but not this one.
Karen is delighted that the Barn are, once again, bringing unpublished work by local writers to the stage. Marie-Jose Godby is making her debut as Karen’s Director’s Assistant.
