Charles & Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh. Hill House, 1902–1904. Helensburgh, Scotland.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh – ‘Toshy’ – has become, as with so many creative artists, much loved after his death.
Studying in the prosperous Glasgow of the late 20th century, he developed an individual signature style blending Art Nouveau, Celtic art and traditional Scottish vernacular architecture. We will look at his place in the architecture of the time as well as at the ‘Mackintosh Revival’ of the 1960s and the ‘Mockintosh’ souvenir industry trading on his style.
