We are very much looking forward to our next concert of favourite works from the Classical period. We will be joined again by soprano Elizabeth Weisberg and a small ensemble of strings, trumpet and organ. Mozart’s Vesperae de Confessore was among the last works he wrote for the Archbishop of Salzburg and contains the famous setting for Soprano and choir of “Laudate Dominum”. Haydn’s “Nelson Mass” is thus called because at the time of the first performance, news had just arrived of Nelson’s victory over Napoleon at the battle of the Nile . Haydn manages to convey the worry felt in Vienna at the time through his wonderfully dramatic writing, especially for the Soprano soloist. A real treat!
