The English Channel coast is iconic;spectacular physical landscapes and world famous resorts. We look at aspects of this coast both human and ecological. From the national defences at Portsmouth Harbour to the piers at the resorts the hand of man is apparent, but these activities take place along a coast of chalk at Seven Sisters and sandstone at Hastings;mudflats at Chichester Harbour and sand dunes at Camber; shingle at Dungeness and mudfalts at Hayling Island. We will study a variety of these aspects to better understand why this landscape looks as it does today but also how it has changed over time.
