On 8 December, global child development charity Compassion UK is inviting people to their Carols with Compassion carol service at Welcome Church in Woking. Their first-ever in-person service will feature a screening of a nativity performed by Compassion-supported children in Indonesia.
Some of the UK’s most well-known Christian musicians will be in Woking to celebrate on the night, including Philippa Hanna, Noel Robinson, Steph Macleod and Lucy Grimble. The evening will feature these globally renowned artists performing and making modern some of the nation’s favourite timeless Christmas carols.
Singer and songwriter Philippa Hanna, who has toured with artists such as Lionel Richie, Little Mix and Leona Lewis says, “Christmas is such a beautiful time to gather with your community and sing your favourite songs. Carols with Compassion gives us a chance to stretch that connection to our global community too. I’m really looking forward to the carol service and performing live in person.”
The service may be taking place locally, but it has a several global elements. The international Christian charity, which helps to lift children and their families out of poverty, will celebrate and feature people they work with from all around the world through a nativity presentation and performances throughout the evening.
The service will be hosted by Janay Sheikh, who was a part of the Compassion programme as a child.
Janay Sheikh says “Compassion means a lot to me personally and I’m so happy to be a part of Carols with Compassion. It’s an opportunity to invite friends and family to hear amazing stories and enjoy a nativity beautifully brought to life by children in the Compassion programme..”
This festive event runs from 7pm to 8.15pm. Mulled wine, mince pies, gingerbread biscuits and a Christmas gift for every child attending will also be provided. Tickets are free and all are invited.
