The 69th annual Brook and Sandhills village fete, one of the most popular and longest-running in southern England, will once again be held on Bank Holiday Monday, May 25th, from 1-5pm. As ever, the emphasis is firmly on good old fashioned family fun, in the idyllic setting of the village green, surrounded by the picturesque Surrey hills, on the A286, right opposite the Dog and Pheasant Pub.
This year’s event, sponsored by nearby King Edward’s Witley, offers a host of activities and games for children of all ages, plus a large number of stalls offering all sorts of produce. The dog show always attracts wide-ranging entries and is great fun to watch, along with fairground rides, shooting gallery, hook a duck, bash the rat, face painting, lucky dip, plate smashing and coconut shy.
Among new attractions are Lindy Hop dancers and fun free tennis, while the tug-o-war competition is always a great draw, with teams from local firemen, local villagers and the Brook Cricket Club. There is also a parade of superb classic cars. Other attractions include the plant stall, ramblers stall, jewellery making, crafts, ladies clothing and the RSPCA.
Lots of tempting produce will be on offer from the mouthwatering barbecue, tea tent, chocolate stall, popcorn stall, ice-cream stand, candy floss stall, cake stall and Pimm’s tent. The tombola offers many excellent rewards, along with the win a bottle of wine game, while the Draw has a fabulous range of prizes.
Inside the Pirrie Hall will be the usual huge selection of bric-a-brac for the bargain hunter, as well as many hundreds of good hardback and paperback books and children’s toys and games. Donations for these and for the tombola can be made beforehand and over the bank holiday weekend through phoning 07827 337 942.
Your continuing support will be much appreciated as the Pirrie Hall (GU8 5UJ) has charitable status and the money raised is crucial in maintaining the hall and grounds, home to the well-known cricket club, tennis club, nursery school, children’s playground and other highly valued clubs and activities which support the local community. There is no outside funding for this important institution. We look forward to seeing you there – no matter the weather!
