John Altman
Bowie, Python, Bond, Amy Winehouse and Me
John Altman – hitmaker, film composer, raconteur – shares 50 years of revealing and hilarious stories from the frontline of show business as he launches his memoir, 'Hidden Man: My Many Musical Lives'.
John has worked with an almost surreal who's who of film and music icons, from David Bowie, Prince and Michael Jackson to George Michael, Diana Ross, Rod Stewart and Pharrell Williams. He was Van Morrison's musical director for many years, arranged Always Look on the Bright Side of Life for Monty Python; put together Bjork's classic 'It's Oh So Quiet'; mentored the pre-fame Amy Winehouse; crossed paths with Charlie Chaplin, Chet Baker, Nick Drake and Slim Gaillard; and worked on the soundtracks for films as diverse as Titanic, Little Voice and No Time to Die, the last James Bond film. He was in Hot Chocolate, too. And, as a child, appeared onstage with Judy Garland.
John has a unique perspective on the music and film worlds of the last half-century and we are excited to welcome him for this special evening of stories, as he reflects on his amazing career.
John will be in Conversation with Duncan Steer, who has recently hosted highly entertaining nights at the OSO with Tour de France commentator Carlton Kirby and ex-England cricketer Derek Pringle.
