Bad Girls the Musical at Camberley Theartre
CAMUS PRODUCTIONS - BACK BEHIND BARS - with a fresh, funny and original British musical, based on characters from the award winning and hugely popular ITV1 television drama, Bad Girls.
CAMUS productions are breaking out of the Coronavirus Lockdown with their forthcoming production of Bad Girls - The Musical. Serving time at Camberley Theatre from 4th - 7th May 2022.
Observing the darker side of prison life on G-Wing at the fictional prison HMP Larkhall, Bad Girls The Musical tells the story of idealistic Wing Governor Helen Steward (Freya Wall) and her battles with the old guard Officer Jim Fenner (Eddie King) and his sidekick Sylvia 'Bodybag' Hollamby (Julie Hammond). Among the inmates featured in the show are Shell Dockley (Michelle Friend) and her runner Denny Blood (Jenny Seddon), the Governor's love-interest Nikki Wade (Laura Thomas), old-timer Norren Biggs, the two Julies and gangland boss's missus Yvonne Atkins (Penny Thatcher). A tragic death on the wing - in which Jim Fenner is implicated - leads to an angry protest from the women and forces Helen and Nikki to their opposite sides of the bars where the race is on for the women to nail Jim once and for all.
Written by the creators of the award-winning television series, which ran for eight seasons on ITV1, Bad Girls the Musical is based on the core characters from the first three series of the programme.
A blend of hard-hitting drama and heart-warming comedy, the musical is written by Maureen Chadwick and Ann McManus, the pairing behind the original television series with original musical score and lyrics by Kath Gotts offering a mix of funny and moving songs from ballads to showtime including Freedom Road, Jailcraft and All Banged Up.
Crammed full of big songs and characters, it is an exhilarating mix of gritty reality, rebellious spirit, emotional honesty and irreverent humour that touches hearts and kicks up a riot.
