Devised by the award-winning Scottish-Polish pianist Elizabeth Mucha, this multi-media song recital revolves around the stormy and passionate life of Alma Mahler, wife of the famous Austrian composer Gustav Mahler.
Alma’s compositions are at the heart of this recital alongside works by her husband Mahler, her teacher Alexander von Zemlinsky, and the great Germanic composers, Wagner, Schumann and Beethoven.
Linking this are excerpts from the young Alma’s diaries, read by actress Sandy Walsh. The performance offers the audience a fascinating insight into Viennese life at the turn of the 19th/20th century as well as Alma’s own tempestuous personal life.
The whole experience is enhanced by artwork, projected onto a backdrop, by famous Viennese artists of the era such as Gustav Klimt.
