Our 3 Day Drama Workshop is the ultimate crash course in improvisation, text and Shakespeare. Each day is assigned to a different element and lasts three hours. By the end of each session, our students should leave the class with a strong grounding in each skill allowing them to go on to develop these further through reading, classes and workshops.
Day 1 - Improvisation
This is a skill which is essential for every part of acting. Being able to respond to the actor opposite you is integral to producing a ‘real’ performance and can also aid you in getting out of sticky situations! This first session will begin with games and exercises aimed at opening students up to each other and allowing them to say ‘yes’ to the actor opposite rather than putting up a brick wall and saying ‘no’. This will then move onto creating short improvised scenes within a set situation.
Day 2 - Text
Linking to Day 1 on improvisation, this class will look into exploring text and the essential process needed to help students discover the words on the page, the punctuation used by the writers, the exploration of the characters, their backgrounds and their motivations to speak the text. By the end of the session pupils will have a strong grounding in approaching texts, being able examine them through analysis and improvisation.
Day 3 - Shakespeare
Linking to Day 2 on text, this class will look specifically at his work and the process needed to explore his words, characters and settings. Students will work on short scenes from a selection of his plays and by the end of the class, will have a strong grounding in approaching these texts in the future. Students will also be looking at his sonnets and soliloquies.
