Editor Emily's hello – The Windsor, Ascot and Maidenhead Magazine, May 2016
What a stalwart! Ninety years of age, the longest reigning monarch in British history and still going strong. A lifetime of dutiful devotion to the great, the good and the not-so-good of the realm; a ceaseless round of polite conversation, demanding engagements and wearisome appointments with the looking glass.
But at least the subjects are grateful. Meeting or serving the Queen is an experience that one never forgets. So in this, our 90th birthday special issue, we introduce you to a variety of locals for whom the royal dream has come true.
Meet John Warren of Highclere Stud, the celebrated bloodstock advisor responsible for the breeding of Estimate, Her Majesty’s champion mare who triumphed in the 2013 Ascot Gold Cup.
Say hello to Jo Peck of HPower, the event management company that runs the Royal Windsor Horse Show, now charged with organising this month’s HMQ90 celebration as part of the annual equine extravaganza. And then there’s local lady Jacqueline Todd, who rolls back the years to recall her youthful encounter with the Queen and the Duke.
Enjoy our celebratory issue and raise a leisurely glass to the birthday girl of the year.

LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY
Celebrate a corner of Windsor Great Park that forms an enduring part of the royal legacy. The Savill Garden was commissioned by Queen Mary in the 1930s and provides a window on the seasons. Visit this month for vibrant views of rhododendrons blooming in Spring Wood, then return in June – not only for the 3,500 roses that will be coming into flower, but to see the Royal Collection of Plants. These include the many exotic numbers in the New Zealand Garden that were presented to Her Majesty as gifts. (Emma Pritchard)
