Emily Davis finds the cutest present for your Valentine
Wildly in love? Why not adopt an animal for your loved one this Valentine's Day with Surrey Wildlife Trust? The adorable gift sets make an unusual and perfect present for your Valentine.
When we heard about them in the office we - well the girls at least - couldn't stop cooing (hint hint boys). Our hearts started beating faster as we raced to instantly change our desktop backgrounds to this cute dormouse snap.
Sadly, over the past 100 years dormice have become extinct across half their range in England and are a priority species for conservation.
The good news? They have been found in a number of sites in Surrey! This is where you come in. By adopting a dormouse you will contribute to Surrey Wildlife Trust’s vital conservation work and help to protect one of our most popular and rare mammals. The money raised will provide funds to pay for new dormouse nest boxes and for maintaining existing ones.
If dormice don't do it for you, panic not - we're not finished yet! What about an otter?
Although their range is increasing (particularly in Britain), the population of the European otter is still fragile. Numbers could easily collapse as they did in the past, mainly caused by hunting, the use of industrial and agricultural pesticides and loss of habitat.
By adopting an otter you will be helping to protect this charismatic animal. Every adoption will provide funds to help improve riverbanks, build artificial otter homes and involve landowners in habitat improvement, so that otters can move around the county more easily to find food and mates.
What are you waiting for? Valentine's Day can't come soon enough.
For just £20.00 you will receive a personalised adoption certificate, dormouse/otter fact sheet, FSC Guide to British Land Mammals, a dormouse/otter soft toy, photograph, sticker and badge, plus two newsletters a year to let you know how your support is helping otters/dormice.
