Emma Pritchard breaks the ice, with advice on how to take care of our feathered friends as the frost kicks in
Don’t forget our feathered friends during festive frosts. Make your own seed cakes to warm them up over winter:
1) Make a hole in the bottom of a yoghurt pot. Thread string through the hole and tie a knot on the inside. Leave enough string so that you can hang from a tree.
2) Place cubes of room temperature lard in a mixing bowl and combine with bird seed, peanuts, raisins and grated cheese using your fingertips.
3) Fill your yoghurt pot with the bird cake mixture and place in the fridge to set for about an hour.
