Schumann’s beautiful cello concerto forms the centerpiece of Thames Philharmonia’s summer concert, celebrating the friendship of two great romantic composers: Schumann and Brahms. An atmospheric tone poem, The Enchanted Lake, by the Russian composer Liadov sets the scene, and the programme concludes with Brahms’ crowning masterpiece – his Fourth Symphony, which blends majestic pathos with moments of exuberant joy. Soloist to be announced; see Thames Philharmonia website, Facebook, Twitter.
