Wendy Cope’s poem The River Girl takes us into the profoundly uncomfortable territory of male artists and the treatment of their female partners. Exposed in many a biography of writers, artists and actors is a partner whose personality is subordinate to that of the “star”. Wendy Cope uses a mixture of humour and irony to chart the course of one such relationship between a poet and his lover. Using the distinctive marionettes and the intimate atmosphere of the Puppet Theatre Barge, the company creates a unique theatrical event.
Suitable for adults.
